The aquatic hyphomycete, T. elegans, was not influenced by the presence of the bacteria used in this study. This is in contrast to previous work examining fungalebacterial inter- actions associated with litter decay (Gulis & Suberkropp 2003a, b; Mille-Lindblom & Tranvik 2003; Wohl & McArthur 2001). Although T. elegans was not used in those studies, they did use aquatic hyphomycetes commonly associated with decaying litter (e.g., Articulospora tetracladia, Anguillospora longissima) that are also found at our field site (Das et al. 2007), as well as litter-derived bacterial isolates.
